How To Build A Tree Stand

Deer hunting season is highly anticipated in many parts of the country and any hunter worth their salt has a good tree stand. If you learn how to build a tree stand, not only will you increase your chances of a big catch, but save yourself a lot of money too. However, you also want to make sure that your tree stand is going to be tip top safe. Follow this step by step guide on how to build a tree stand.

First with your plans for a tree stand, go to the area that you will be hunting in and find a tree with a Y fork to form the base of your tree stand. A fork that is about 3 or 4 meters above the ground is ideal. Make sure your tree looks healthy and strong. It will need to be sturdy enough to hold your weight, your tree stand’s weight and that of your equipment. The materials you will need to construct your tree stand are a drill, bolts, tube pipes, drill bits, chain and a boat seat.

Begin building your tree stand by getting the drill and drilling holes on both ends of your tube pipe. You need to make the holes big enough to fit the bolts. After you have made the holes on four corners of the pipe you bolt them together making sure the bolts are fitted very tightly. Take four tube pipes and do the same thing. You will now have two squares of equal size.

Next get the two squares and connect them together with four extra bits of tube piping. This will connect the top and bottom of the top of the climbing stand. When you have bolted the pipes firmly, you will need to bolt down the chain cable, which allows you to climb the tree and keep you up there while hunting. You are going to need to take four more bits of the tube pipe to build the underneath part of your tree stand. Bolt together the four pieces of the pipe, and then bolt another piece of chain to it. Create a "V" shape on the side that will be flush against the tree.

Climbing stands have the distinct advantage of being portable. However, always put your safety first. If you are not 100 per cent confident with it, then don’t use it.
